  1. Computer Programs:
  2. This program. The program that you are running right now is
  3. written in Turbo Prolog. It is a modification of a menu program
  4. written to solve problems encountered with large systems that
  5. required the inclusion of a variety of third party programs.
  6.  
  7. Accounts Receivable. I developed an accounts receivable program
  8. for an oil and gas library. The problem was that no accounts
  9. receivable program would handle the large number of transactions
  10. and billing dues on a monthly, annual or semi-annual basis. This
  11. was a contract for a computer dealer that sold a system and
  12. couldn't find the software to make it do what he promised. This
  13. was a very low budget job.

  16. Salehandler a computer program for auctioneers that handles
  17. bookkeeping, buyer registration, buyer pay out, seller settlement,
  18. sales tax and more during the auction sale. It works on site in
  19. real time. I developed the program and documentation. I have
  20. marketed the program since 1978. I do the whole show. The program
  21. has been moderately successful.
  22.  
  23. Copy protection. In the Salehandler program I designed and
  24. implemented a method of copy protection that in the right
  25. circumstances is 100% effective and completely benign to the user
  26. as long as he doesn't want to steal the program. The method is to
  27. encrypt his name and address in a file that is read by the
  28. program. The special circumstance is that printed output must be
  29. a major product of the program and the users customer, lenders or
  30. clients must see the print out. The way it works is that in order
  31. to be usable to the user it must have his name on it. The
  32. benefits of this method are that demos can be freely distributed.
  33. My experience, limited to the one program and a small sample, is
  34. that over 50% of the demos result in sales. This could be
  35. expanded to distributing a demo package at very low cost and
  36. having the customer or dealer call in to a central and entering
  37. the customer data and VISA Card number the central would send
  38. back the encrypted file. The product would be registered, paid
  39. for and distributed in one pass.
  40.  
  41. Embryo transplant accounting. This is a large system for a micro
  42. computer. It consists of over 200 files and programs. It tracks the
  43. ownership, calving, breeding, status and location of transplanted
  44. and frozen cattle embryos. Also a 25,000 name mailing list is used
  45. in conjunction with a program that tracks sales of registered brood
  46. stock and handles the registration papers. This was a low budget
  47. contract.

  49. Oil well reporting. A program that uses input form a word
  50. processor to file daily reports on several oil fields and file
  51. them under individual wells. This system took a reporting section
  52. of a national oil company from 6 months behind to two days behind
  53. over a six month period. In the same time the staff that produced
  54. the report was reduced by 50%. This was a contract job.
  55.  
  56. Front end for accounts receivable. Developed a system that takes
  57. data from the key board and produces two streams of data one for
  58. an existing accounts receivable program and the other for a data
  59. base program. During development of this system serious problems
  60. developed in the account receivable portion of the system. By
  61. using the backup files produced by this system we were able to
  62. reconstruct an entire month of transactions of a large farm
  63. machinery dealer in four hours.

  65. Computer magazine. In developing a menu program in Turbo PROLOG
  66. it became obvious that a very similar program could be used to
  67. produce a computer magazine. The result is the program that you
  68. are now running. This same program with 30 minutes modification
  69. can serve as a menu program, magazine, computerized documentation
  70. or all three.

  72. Writing:
  73. Documentation for the Salehandler computer program. The original
  74. was a conventional loose leaf binder. The latest version is a
  75. computer file that is displayed and printed by a version of this
  76. program. The advantage of this form of publication is that the
  77. documentation can be kept in sync with the modifications of the
  78. programs.
  79.  
  80. Magazine:
  81. I write a monthly column for Country Magazine in Wichita Falls,
  82. Texas. I am listed as a regional editor.
  83.  
  84. Well's Gulf Coast Fisherman has published several of my articles.
  85. Other publication that have published my work include: The
  86. Survivor, County Magazine, Science Newsletter, Discovery and
  87. Science 86. I am a regular contributor of both photography and
  88. articles to the Frederick Press and the Wichita Falls Record
  89. News.
